The Church dedicated to the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in Butyrskaya Sloboda is a unique architectural monument from the 17th century. It was built between 1682 and 1684 with funds provided by soldiers, under the support of Tsars Peter I and Ivan Alekseyevich, to commemorate the end of the war with the Ottoman Empire and Crimean Khanate as the first stone military church in Russia. Today, the church is gradually returning to its historical appearance.

After 1917, the church was recognized as an architectural monument almost immediately. Services continued until 1920 but were closed and transferred to a factory in 1935. The church served as a warehouse and then a workshop. During World War II, the upper tier of its belfry was demolished.

I am glad that the allotment is finally being restored. It is interesting how in the 1970s they "crashed" the factory building into the church - they probably went right through the walls. By November 2026, says Resin, they will have time - well, at least they return something.

It’s interesting that it was in 1970 that they managed to cut the factory building right into the church. It’s good that at least the northern aisle is now being completed by November 2026, otherwise almost the entire historical appearance will be returned.
