When James Kilgo published Deep Enough for Ivorybills in 1988, reviewers compared it to Annie Dillard’s 1974 nature memoir Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. Dillard herself saw the kinship. I found Kilgo interesting mainly because of the honesty with which he writes about hunting and nature at the same time. I wonder if Dillard mentioned in that afterword any particular passage from Ivorybills that got her. I definitely want to read it.
