Wendell Berry—who died on August 31 at the age of 92—deeply influenced countless Christians through his fiction, essays, and poetry. I count myself among his adoring fans. I have read with pleasure about Wendell Berry and his view of the Church as "many small and fragile lights in the darkness." It reminded me of the winter services at our parish in Constanța, when it is so cold and icy, yet a few elderly people still come in rubber boots. I believe he was right; the true Church is seen better during difficult times.
