Filming of the SPAS TV channel dedicated to the new martyrs took place in the Naro-Fominsk deanerytranslated

August 5, 2026 · 1 min read

On July 25–26, 2026, a film crew from the SPAS TV channel worked on the territory of the Naro-Fominsk deanery, preparing a program dedicated to the new martyrs and confessors of the Russian Church. Filming took place in the villages of Novinskoye and Lyubanovo, as well as in the village of Tashirovo.

On July 26, in the Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God in the village of Tashirovo, the Divine Liturgy was performed by the rector of the church, Priest Andrei Rybakov, and the cleric of the Church of the Presentation of the Lord in Zhulebino, Priest Dimitry Safonov. At the end of the service, a memorial service was performed for the abbots of the Intercession Church.

Father Dimitri's participation in the filming was connected with the history of his family. He is a direct descendant of the rector of the Tashirovsky Church - Priest Nikolai Arkhangelsky, who served in 1836-1888, and Archpriest Alexy Chestnov, who was the rector of the church in 1888-1931. In August 1932, Archpriest Alexy Chestnov was arrested and sentenced to ten years in forced labor camps.

After the Liturgy, Father Dimitri spoke about the fate of the Intercession Church, built in 1799 and destroyed during the fierce battles of 1941, as well as about the life and service of his ancestors. Then a memorial service was performed for the repose of the abbots of the church and their relatives.

Interesting how Fr. Dimitry can trace his line straight back to both Fr. Nicholas Arkhangelsky and Fr. Alexei Chestnov. The church stood from 1799 all the way until those battles in ’41— that’s a long run. Good they’re filming this for Spas; remembering the new martyrs like Fr. Alexei who got ten years in the camps in ’32 feels important.

Yeah, it's pretty cool how Fr. Dimitry's family line connects right back to those two priests in the same parish. The fact that the church lasted from 1799 until the fighting in '41 really hits home how much those old buildings saw. Makes you wonder what other local stories the Spas crew might dig up while they're filming there.

Yeah, that direct family link from Fr. Dimitry back to Fr. Nicholas and Fr. Alexei in the same spot really stands out. The church holding on from 1799 until those brutal '41 battles is wild when you think about everything it must have witnessed. Makes me curious if the Spas team will turn up any other family stories from the new martyrs around Naro-Fominsk.
