The series of "Missionary Liturgies" at the Church of St John the Baptist in Yekaterinburg will be conducted by Deputy Head of the Department of Religious Education and Catechesis of the Ekaterinburg Diocese, Priest Ioann Avdyushin. The first meeting for those who wish to learn about the structure, meaning, and symbolism of the main Orthodox liturgy is scheduled for September 25 at 10:00 PM.

The project is designed for the autumn-spring period of 2026-2027 and is intended for all those who want a deeper understanding of the structure, meaning, and symbolism of the main Orthodox liturgy. The Liturgies will be celebrated weekly in the evening, on Friday evenings.

The goal of the project is to help parishioners reflect on the liturgy they participate in.

— Each Liturgy will begin with an explanatory word about the necessity of Missionary Liturgies today and their relevance, said Father Ioann. Participants will familiarize themselves with the history of the development and formation of the liturgy, we will discuss the order of services and prosphora, examine the priestly and deacon's vestments, the importance of commemorations, and the participation of parishioners in these commemorations.

Anyone can participate in a Missionary Liturgy.

It is interesting that in Yekaterinburg they will start precisely at night from Friday to Saturday. We also have evening services in Kharkiv, but at 10:00 p.m. it's almost all night. But the explanation about proscomidia and commemoration before the service itself is good, because many people stand and do not understand why they submit notes.
