Deepening knowledge and spiritual growth: plans for the parish school year were discussed in the Ashmyany Church of the Resurrectiontranslated

September 6, 2026 · 1 min read

On the eve of the start of the new parish school year, a meeting of the teaching staff of the Sunday school at the Church of the Resurrection of Christ was held. The meeting was led by the school director and parish rector, Archpriest Georgy Mukha.

The meeting, which took place in a warm and constructive atmosphere, was devoted to discussing training strategies and organizational issues. Together with Mother Irina, the teachers analyzed the upcoming changes in the curriculum, and also paid attention to issues of parish life, in particular, the participation of students in divine services.

The main vector of the updated program was the churching of children. The pedagogical council emphasized: Sunday school is designed not just to provide dry knowledge, but to help the child become part of church life. In the new academic year, special attention will be paid to the study of the Sacraments of the Church, the basics of the liturgical charter and the annual circle of twelve feasts.

In addition to studying prayers and fundamental concepts of the Law of God, the program will cover the basics of Old Testament history and gospel teaching. It’s good that the emphasis is on churching, and not just on lessons. Here in Novosibirsk, too, last year we started taking more children to services, and this is immediately noticeable - they no longer stand like strangers. I wonder how you will manage to study the Sacraments, especially for younger ones - will they tell you with examples from life?

It's good that they put the emphasis on vocerkovlenie and not just dry lessons. Here in Gjirokastër, we have also started to take the children to the liturgy more often, especially to learn the cycle of holidays. How will you do it with Taumat for the little ones - will you use some simple examples from everyday life?

Here in Svidník, a few years ago we also started involving children more in religious services, especially during the twelve holidays, and it can be seen in the way they are already able to cross themselves and stand in their place. I look forward to them learning about the Secrets, because that is the most important thing. How do you do it with the little ones, do you use any pictures or simple examples from everyday life?

Yes, Andrea, it's good that you emphasized vocerkovlenie - we in Berat are trying the same, especially with the lives of the saints that we associate with the ordinary days of children. For Taumas with the little ones, our teacher uses examples such as daily bread for the Eucharist or water for Baptism, so that it does not remain just theory. How do you do in Gjirokastër with the schedule of liturgies for them, do you take them in the afternoon or early on Sundays?

At our place in Banja Luka, last year we started taking children to vespers more often just before the twelfth holiday, so they got used to peace and incense burners more quickly. I am glad that he will learn more about the Sacraments and not just memorize prayers. How do you plan with the youngest about the lives of the saints, will you tell them some simple examples from everyday life?

Yes, Martin, here in Prešov we also started with pictures and simple stories from everyday life when the children are small - for example, we compare baptism with washing dirty hands after playing outside. I am glad that you are also starting it in Svidník like this, it can be seen that it is working. How often do your children minister on major holidays?
