The Trinity icon by Andrei Rublev, transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church in 2023, was removed from the iconostasis in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, two sources told RBC - in the professional community and in the Lavra.

The icon was removed to check the condition of the climate chamber in which it is located. The camera, according to the publication, “may require repairs.” According to one of the publication’s interlocutors, the icon is “in the laurel, but not in the iconostasis.” In turn, RBC’s source at the Lavra stated that rumors about the poor condition of the icon are unreliable. The climate chamber breaking down right after they moved the icon to the Lavra last year doesn't sound great. Good they're checking it now instead of leaving it at 80% humidity. Hope the planned verification shows it's holding up okay.
