A prayer service was performed for the declaration of the Vow of Sobrietytranslated

August 20, 2026 · 1 min read

On the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, August 19, in the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross in the village of Romashki, after the Divine Liturgy and the rite of consecration of the fruits of the new harvest, a prayer service was held for the declaration of the Vow of Sobriety, which was performed by the head of the Department for Combating Drug Addiction and Alcoholism of the Vyborg Diocese, Priest Alexander Semyonov.

Graduate Ilya made his vow before God. The brother confirmed his intention to continue a sober life and secured it with a Vow before the Cross and the Gospel. This is not just a renunciation of harmful habits, but a conscious surrender of one’s will to the Lord for the sake of saving the soul - a huge spiritual work.

We pray that the Lord will strengthen Elijah in his good intentions and give him strength in bearing this voluntary cross - the gift of sobriety for the sake of love for God and his neighbors!

I am glad that Elijah took his oath in front of the Cross and the Gospel. This is a big step, especially after the Divine Liturgy and the consecration of the fruits. May God keep him strong.
