Saint Hierarch Nifon, celebrated in Târgoviște: the Church traverses history with the footsteps of the saintstranslated

"The Church traverses history in the footsteps of the saints, and their fascinating experience and deepening of Christian values is constituted in that wonderful treasure of spirituality that inspires our lives, of all of us, young and old", emphasized on Tuesday the Most Reverend Father Nifon, Archbishop of Târgoviște, Honorary Metropolitan and Patriarchal Exarch.

On the occasion of the celebration of the Holy Hierarch Nifon, the Patriarch of Constantinople, the protector of the Archdiocese of Târgoviște, His Eminence officiated the Holy Liturgy, together with Archbishop Varsanufie of Râmnicu, Bishops Visarion of Tulcea and Ieronimo of Dacia Felix and Vicar Bishop Teofil Trotușanul of the Archdiocese of Roman and Bacău.

About 20,000 pilgrims participated in the service held near the Archbishop's Cathedral, who came to honor the relics of the Holy Hierarch Nifon and those of the Holy Martyr Filofteia, brought from Curtea de Argeș.

At the sermon, IPS Nifon said that "the saints shine on the firmament of the Church as lucifers of light, truth and justice".

"They look upon the earth as an occasion for the conquest of heaven. The whole Church ordained as saints—these heroes…

We had a small group from our parish that drove down for the feast last year and the sheer number of people this time—20,000—must have been something to see. I especially liked the line about the saints traversing history with their steps; it makes me think of St. Niphon’s relics right there next to St. Filofteia’s, two very different lives still drawing crowds to the same spot. Did you manage to venerate both sets of relics?

We had a small group from our parish that drove down for the feast last year too, and reading about 20,000 people this time makes me wish we could have gone. The part about the Church traveling through history with the steps of the saints stuck with me as well, especially since they brought St. Niphon’s relics right there by the cathedral. Our boys asked about the procession afterward, and it was nice to tell them how the saints really do light the way.
