Serbian Culture Minister supports restoration of historic Church in Gornji Adrovac

Metropolitan Arsenije of Niš welcomed Serbian Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković and his delegation at the Episcopal Residence in Niš on July 1, 2026, for the signing of an agreement supporting the restoration of the Memorial Church of the Holy Trinity in Gornji Adrovac.
The funding was awarded through a competition organized by the Ministry of Culture and is intended for the preservation and renewal of the historic church, which was built on the site where Count Nikolay Nikolayevich Raevsky was killed in 1876 while fighting as a volunteer during the Serbian–Ottoman War.
The Memorial Church in Gornji Adrovac was erected by the family of the fallen Russian nobleman and military officer. Over the decades, it has stood as a symbol of the enduring brotherhood between the Serbian and Russian peoples and of the shared sacrifices made during difficult periods of their history.
This year also marks the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gornji Adrovac, during which Count Raevsky gave his life in support of the freedom of the Serbian people. His sacrifice remains a powerful testimony to the historic ties between the two Slavic nations.
