News / 05.08.2026 05.08.2026 #Cathedral of Samara Saints Samara saints of God: Hieromartyr Vyacheslav Infantov On the eve of August 12, the day of celebration of the Cathedral of Samara Saints, established by Patriarch Alexy II in 2004, we are beginning a series of publications dedicated to the lives and exploits of the devotees of piety of our region. One of these saints of God is Presbyter Vyacheslav Infantov. Hieromartyr Vyacheslav was born in 1883 into the family of a clerk and after graduating from the Theological Seminary he accepted holy orders. In 1930, he suffered his first six-month arrest in Samara prison on charges of anti-Soviet agitation. In 1937, Father Vyacheslav was again arrested in Kuibyshev and brought into investigation in the large-scale group case of Archbishop Alexander (Trapitsyn). The priest was accused of participating in an underground counter-revolutionary church organization, but he did not admit his guilt. On December 21, 1937, by resolution of the NKVD Troika, Father Vyacheslav was sentenced to capital punishment and executed on February 8, 1938, after which he was buried in a common grave in Kuibyshev.

In 2000, the Jubilee Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church canonized Presbyter Vyacheslav...

Thanks for the reminder. The second arrest in 1937 in Kuibyshev and the group "work" with Archbishop Alexander must have been terribly difficult if he didn't acknowledge it. It is good that they canonized him in 2000 so that he is not forgotten.

Thank you for reminding me about Father Vyacheslav. I was especially struck by the fact that he was imprisoned in our Samara prison twice and even in a group case with Archbishop Alexander did not admit guilt. It’s good that he was canonized in 2000, now at least we commemorate him in the Cathedral of Samara Saints.
