Procession of lights – ITO 2026 | PHOTOtranslated

September 2, 2026 · 1 min read

The "Procession of Lights" brought together the participants of the International Meeting of Orthodox Youth 2026 on the streets of the Capital on Wednesday evening, September 2, 2026.

The pilgrimage took place from the National Cathedral to the esplanade of the Patriarchal Cathedral "Saints Constantine and Helena".

The young people carried lighted candles in their hands and will be greeted by the Blessed Father Patriarch Daniel in front of the Patriarchal Residence, where a moment of prayer will take place.

Before the procession, the young people participated in the spiritual conference held, at the National Cathedral, by His Holiness Father Macarie, Bishop of Northern Europe.

Yes, these photos capture this moment of calm in front of the Residence. In Toulouse last year, with our few candelas for the Dormition, we already had this feeling of peace in rue Saint-Bernard. Did your young people keep candelas lit until the end of the evening in Bucharest?

Yes, the candelas lit in front of the Residence really give this impression of calm, like in the photos of Mircea Florescu. In Toulouse last year for the Dormition, we did the same thing with around ten people in the little street behind the church, and it attracted two or three curious neighbors. Had you planned something similar for the parish this year?

Good point about the candles, Maxim. In Samara, we also try to carry fire during the procession to the Tikhvin Church, but if the wind is from the Volga, then almost everything goes out in a couple of minutes. And the meeting right outside the residence - yes, this is definitely etched in my memory. Didn't you go to ITO this year?

It’s good that young people walked with lights, it’s always touching. In Yaroslavl, we also take candles for the religious procession at the Spassky Monastery, but more often we take lamps - they don’t go out so quickly. Have you, Maxim, been to such meetings yourself or do you only participate in Samara?

Yes, Carla, I completely agree with you. These marches give young people a sense of responsibility. My youngest son participated in a similar one in Tripoli two years ago and was complaining about the hot wax on his fingers the whole way, but he came back proud. Was your journey in Beirut?
