The celebration of this cathedral day of remembrance was officially established in 2004 with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Rus'. The host of Samara saints includes more than 20 saints of God. Among them, both the saints of past centuries and the new martyrs who performed their service or suffered martyrdom on Samara soil in the twentieth century are venerated. The life of each of these ascetics of piety is an example of fidelity to the Church and preservation of the Christian faith.
