The Ruling Bishop celebrated the Divine Liturgy on the day of the celebration of the Bearing of the Cross of the Lordtranslated

On August 14, on the day of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Venerable Trees of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, as well as on the first day of the Dormition Lent, His Eminence Archbishop Savva of Tiraspol and Dubossary celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Tiraspol. During the divine service, Hieromonk John (Traito), Hieromonk Simeon (Lupashko) and deacon Grigory Martynov, who is undergoing liturgical practice, served with His Eminence the rector. The Feast of the Destruction of the Venerable Trees of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord is associated with an ancient church tradition, according to which on August days the shrine was taken out of the royal treasury for veneration by believers and religious processions. On the same day, the Dormition Fast begins - a time of special prayer work, abstinence and spiritual preparation for the Feast of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary. At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Archbishop Savva performed the rite of blessing the honey of the new collection.

After reading the prayers established by the Church, His Eminence the Bishop sprinkled holy water on the gifts of the new harvest and on the believers who brought them for consecration, invoking God’s blessing on them. His Eminence then addressed...

God save Vladyka Savva. In Kharkiv, honey was also consecrated today, the children brought a jar each from Uncle Vasyl's apiary, so now the school will have something to strengthen itself during fasting. It's good that the fast starts on this day, it immediately puts you in a serious mood.

It's good that the fifteenth of August starts with honey. In Heraklion yesterday after the mass the priest blessed the jars we brought from the neighbor's garden, my children took them to school. Archbishop Savvas seems calm and careful, as he should be.

In Vinnytsia, too, honey was consecrated today after the liturgy, my daughter-in-law brought a couple of jars from her father-in-law's apiary, now the grandchildren are asking for tea for breakfast. And in Kharkiv, does Uncle Vasyl keep bees himself or does he just give them to the children? It is good that children immediately see how fasting begins with a blessing.

We had the honey blessing here in Chicago too after Liturgy. My daughter brought a little jar from the farmer’s market and the kids at church were already asking for a spoonful with their tea. Nice to see it’s the same tradition everywhere, even in Transnistria.

Here in Cluj, after this morning's Liturgy, the father also consecrated the new honey brought by several families from the neighboring village. Our children each took a teaspoon with their tea, just like those in Kharkiv or Chicago. Good tradition, it helps you enter the fast with something sweet and concrete.

We had the honey blessing here in Portland too after Liturgy this morning. My roommate brought a small jar from the farmers market stand she likes, and the kids in youth group were already asking for a taste with their tea. Nice to hear Archbishop Savva did the same in Tiraspol right at the start of the Dormition fast.
