On July 21, Metropolitan Alexy of Chelyabinsk and Miass took part in a meeting of the Council for the Implementation of State National Policy. Opening the meeting, Governor Alexey Teksler noted the importance of the active work ongoing in the Chelyabinsk region within the framework of the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia declared by the President. “For our multinational region, this initiative is of particular importance - it helps to strengthen mutual understanding and preserve the cultural diversity of the Southern Urals,” the head of the region emphasized. The governor recalled that the region hosted “Rasulev Readings”, the “Trinity in Troitsk” festival, a media studio was opened for the Chelyabinsk branch of the “Cybers” movement, where they will film modern content about the culture and traditions of the peoples of Russia, municipal events were held, and all of them were organized at a decent level. “Our key task is to ensure high-quality and complete implementation of the regional and federal plans for the Year of Unity events. I would especially emphasize that we must not just hold events, but make them modern, meaningful and truly interesting for residents, especially young people,” said Alexey Teksler. The Rasulev readings stuck with my mom too—she keeps bringing up that one talk on hospitality. I like your grandma-baking-bread idea; if they just let them talk like they do in real life it would feel less like a school project. Maybe short clips of guys playing pickup football with different ethnic teams in the park could pull in more young people?

In our parish in Gdańsk, young people also like to watch something about traditions, but it must be simple and not boring. Do you think they will show something from Tatar cuisine or more from Orthodox customs in the Urals?

I think that Tatar cuisine will definitely appear, because it is their strong point in the region, but I am also counting on something from our Orthodox traditions - e.g. how we prepare Lent dishes in the Urals. In our Lublin parish, kids like simple videos about what their grandmothers cook for Christmas, without long speeches. What exactly have young people been watching most recently in Gdańsk?
