It’s good that St. Demetrius School got down to business. In Samara, we also accepted a couple of guys from Donetsk last year, so it was especially difficult for them to catch up in mathematics and Russian. The main thing is that they don’t just sit you at a desk, but really help you fit in.

They are doing well to organize it. In the schools here in Thessaloniki, we have seen how difficult it is for children who come from elsewhere to catch up on mathematics and language. The point is to have real support, not just put them in order.

Here in Sofia, we had two Ukrainian children in the neighborhood last year, one of whom kept struggling with his lungs. Last year a family from Donetsk arrived in our parish in Barcelona with two children. The oldest one got stuck with fractions and written Russian, just like Stepan says about the Samara kids. I hope this project gives them real classes and not just sitting at the desk.

Here in Ruse, last year we accepted a boy from Lugansk, he was still struggling with his lungs until they gave him a few private lessons after school.
