Patriarch Daniel: Gifts multiply by blessing and sharing with peopletranslated

July 26, 2026 · 1 min read

"Gifts are multiplied by blessing and distribution or sharing with people," explained His Beatitude Father Patriarch Daniel, on Sunday, at the historical "St. M. Mc. Gheorghe" Chapel of the Patriarchal Residence.

Quoting Saint John Chrysostom, His Beatitude showed that the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves is not only a manifestation of divine power, but also a lesson about communion.

"The Lord Jesus Christ, in the same desolate place, gave to the multitudes the same simple food and the same quantity for each man, to teach them humility, self-control and love, to be equal to each other and all the goods of the earth to be common".

Father Patriarch Daniel explained that this miracle reveals the fact that God's blessing bears fruit where there is man's willingness to give.

"The miracle of the multiplication of the loaves was a concrete reality, not a mirage, as Saint John Chrysostom specifies, that is, not an illusion, and the number of twelve baskets of crumbs means that Jesus wanted all the disciples, including Judas Iscariot, to know His power."

Галина ЛисенкоI liked how Patriarch Daniel mentioned that even Judas Iscariot got his basket of crumbs. It reminds us that the Lord gives to everyone, regardless of a person's heart. And in our garden near the church, we also share the harvest with our neighbors - and there is always enough.

Сергей МакаровAccurately noted about the twelve baskets and Judas. This means that even to those who later betray, Christ gave equally and blessed. After the Sunday liturgy, we also often have prosphora left over and we divide it among everyone who came up - and there is always enough, even if there are unexpectedly many people.

Δήμητρα ΑθανασίουI noticed that with the twelve baskets and Judas too. It shows that Christ holds nothing back, even for anyone who would betray Him. In the hospital, when we distribute the sweets that relatives bring, there is always more - as if something is blessing them.
