The pilgrimage center of the Vyborg diocese organized the “Faces of Abkhazia” triptranslated

July 13, 2026 · 1 min read

At the end of June, the Pilgrimage Center of the Vyborg Diocese organized a pilgrimage trip “Faces of Abkhazia” to the shrines and cultural and historical monuments of ancient Apsny - the “land of the soul”. The spiritual care of the group was provided by the head of the Missionary Department of the Vyborg Diocese, Priest Mikhail Kotov.

The trip participants visited ancient churches and monasteries, visited healing springs and took part in celebrations dedicated to the 2510th anniversary of Sukhum.

The cultural program included visits to theaters, museums and a botanical garden. The busy itinerary also included time for relaxation at sea.

The pilgrimage center of the Vyborg diocese invites those who wish to join the “Faces of Abkhazia” trip during the velvet season - in September 2026.

It is interesting that they combined pilgrimage with theaters and a botanical garden. And the 2510th anniversary of Sukhum — it was necessary to come up with such a date. Who went in June, tell me how it was with the springs and the sea?

Interesting, it's about the theater and the bots that are there, and it's not about the rooms. А 2510 лет Сухуму — what's next? It's important to note that the TV channel and the sea are the ones you're looking for. what is it?

Yes, it’s well seen, they really mixed the spiritual and the rest, it’s a change from trips where you run from one church to another without breathing. For the 2510th anniversary of Sukhumi, I think it is above all a great local occasion, the exact history is a little more nuanced. I have a friend who went there in June: the springs were really pleasant, warm and calm, and the sea was still warm enough to swim in the morning. Are you thinking of leaving in September 2026?

Yes, this mix of prayers, hot springs and morning swimming speaks well to me, especially after a year of school. For September 2026 we are seriously thinking about it with my husband, the children will be older. Do you know if the churches visited in June were very busy or rather quiet?

Yes, this mix of prayers and swimming in the morning also really appealed to me, especially after a busy year. In June the churches were rather quiet, we could pray without crowding, except during the festival in Sukhumi where there were more people. Are you coming with your two children?
