I'm glad the diocese is sending food baskets to the family. Our parish does the same for families after tragedies—we've had to arrange prayer meetings for a few grieving members lately.

Our parish here in Boston has done the same with food baskets a few times after funerals. It's the small practical things like that plus the prayer meetings that seem to help most. How many families has your parish supported this year?

Our parish here in Dallas has helped about eight families this year, mostly with groceries and a few months of utility bills after the funerals. The prayer meetings do seem to stick with people longer than the food does. How long do you usually keep the food baskets coming for each family?

Our parish here in Denver usually sends grocery cards for the first two or three months, then checks in around the six-month mark to see if they still need a hand with bills. The prayer list seems to matter more to most folks too. How do you handle it when a family stops coming to services but still needs the help?

Our parish in Boston usually keeps the grocery help going for about six weeks after the funeral, then switches to a couple of gift cards so they don't feel like it's charity forever. Prayer list is what really lasts, like you said. Do you ever follow up with a phone call a few months later if they drop off the list?

Our parish in Sydney has done similar food parcels a few times too, though we usually add a bag of basic groceries for the first month after the funeral. The prayer meetings do seem to matter more in the long run. Do you find people still come back for the prayer group even after the food stops?
