The Metropolitan of Petra at the celebratory Holy Church of Agios Kirikos Humeriakostranslated

July 22, 2026 · 1 min read

The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Petra and Herronissos Mr. Gerasimos officiated at the Solemn Vespers held at the celebratory Church of Agios Kirikos y Humeriakos on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Speaking about the Martyrs Cyril and Juliet, he said: "The Martyrs Cyril and Juliet lived in a time when it was illegal for someone to support Christians, let alone be a Christian. Because of the persecutions they leave their homeland, Iconium, for Seleucia in Asia Minor. But even there he finds persecution. In order for Saint Iulita to protect her child, they also left there to go to Tarsus, the hometown of Paul, the Apostle of the Nations and Illuminator of Crete. And there, however, the Christians were persecuted and finally arrested there. She is repeatedly challenged by the Prefect of Tarsus, Alexander, to change her faith and sacrifice to the idols, but she remains steadfast. It has been taught that the most important thing in our life is not biological life but being with Christ. And he who confesses Christ, Christ will confess for him on the Day of Judgment to His Father."

The evening service in honor of St. Cyric and Julita was beautiful, especially when Metropolitan Gerasim spoke about their flight from Iconium to Seleucia and then to Tarsos. I liked that she mentioned that the most important thing is not the biological life but being with Christ. Blessed be the holiday.

Thanks for the article. I remembered what Metropolitan Gerasim said about the flight of Saints Chiric and Iulita from Iconium to Seleucia and then to Tarsus, the exact place of Saint Paul. The part about "not the biological life is the most important, but being with Christ" really made me think about what we struggle with every day at school and at home. Happy birthday to everyone who was at the job!
