St. Paul's School in Eastern Uganda was foundedtranslated

July 6, 2026 · 1 min read

A great project of Christian education and training is taking shape in Eastern Uganda. The Holy Diocese of Larissa and Tyrnavos, in collaboration with the missionary association "POREIA AGAPIS", are pleased to announce the foundation of the new primary school "Agios Paisios" in the Buyente area of the Diocese of Jinja and Eastern Uganda. The area is also known as the "village of the Larissaians", due to the continuous support of our local church.

Despite the bureaucratic problems, the efforts of the Theophilus Bishop Mr. Silvestros and the residents bore fruit. The new school comes to complement previous infrastructure, such as the drilling of a well and the completion of the kindergarten.

His Holiness Mr. Silvestros visited Larissa to express his thanks to the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Larissa and Tyrnavos, Mr. Ieronymos and the president of the association, Mr. Sotirios Moutzouris. He noted that children now have access to clean water, milk and education, but above all to "living water" through the sacraments of the Church.

At the same time, new group baptisms with Larisa contractors are planned for this summer.

Thank God that the school was still founded, despite all this bureaucracy. It’s good that children will now have clean water and a real education. I wonder how many babies are planning to be baptized this summer with Larisa godparents?

Praise God that they still managed to found a school in Bujende. It is nice that Bishop Sylvestar came in person to thank Bishop Jeronimo and Sotiri Mutzouris. I am interested in whether the people of Larisa will be godparents at baptisms this year as well, or whether someone from Nis will be able to join.

Good to see the school finally get its foundation stone after all that red tape. Nice that Bishop Sylvester came all the way to Larissa to thank Metropolitan Hieronymos and Soterios Moutzouris in person. Wonder how many kids they’re hoping to baptize this summer with the Larissa godparents.

Good to see the red tape finally cleared too. The well and kindergarten they built before this must make a real difference in daily life there. Any idea how the local families in Buyende are pitching in for the running costs once it opens?

The well has already changed things a lot from what I've heard; the mothers don't have to walk so far for water now. Local families are helping with labor and some food for the workers, but the diocese and the Larissa side will cover most teacher salaries at the start. Do you think the village could run small vegetable plots to help with the lunch program later on?

Thank God, we really broke through all these papers. They already have a well, and a kindergarten, now there’s a school - the children will at least learn like human beings. And about christenings, I wonder, Svetlana, how many families from Larisa will be godparents this year?
