Mount Athos: Historic visit of three generations of the Serbian royal family to Hilandari Monastery (VIDEO)translated

September 7, 2026 · 1 min read

A visit with a special historical and symbolic character is made to Mount Athos by three generations of the Serbian royal family Karageorgević. In the Holy Monastery of Hilandariu are the heir to the Serbian throne Alexander, his son and hereditary prince Filippos, as well as the little prince Stefanos. Prince Philip released video of the visit on Saturday, calling the joint presence of the three generations a "historic moment".

"For the first time in the centuries-old history of Hilandari, three generations of the Serbian royal family reside simultaneously on Mount Athos, in the sacred imperial Lavra of the Nemanids, the Monastery of Hilandari," he said in his post.

In the footage released by Prince Philip, the three family members are seen walking down the cobbled corridors of the monastery accompanied by monks.

They then enter the catholicon and worship the icons, while little Stefanos follows his father and grandfather on their tour of the historic site.

It's nice to see three generations together in Hilandar. Little Stefan following his father and grandfather along the stone paths is exactly what is remembered. Thanks for sharing the video.

It's nice to see little Štefan walking behind his father and grandfather along those stone paths in Chilandari. The connection of three generations in the place where the Nemanjićs already prayed is really important. Thanks for the video, Branislav.

It's nice to see three generations of Karadjordjević together in Chilandar. That little Štěpán, as he follows his father and grandfather along the stone paths and then in the church, immediately catches your attention. Thanks for the video, it really feels like a living thread from the past.

Yes, the little Štefan following his father and grandfather along those stone paths also caught my attention. In Hilandari, it really feels like a living connection with the Nemanjićs. I wonder if they plan to stay there longer.
