Kalamata welcomed the Holy Icon of Panagia Dimiovitissatranslated

As every year, this year too, on the evening of Thursday, September 3, 2026, the Holy Clergy, the local authorities and the pious people of Kalamata, led by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Messinia, Mr. Chrysostomos, received the Holy and Miraculous Icon of Panagia Demiovitissa, from the homonymous Holy Monastery of Taygetos, and it was deposited in the Holy Church of the Birth of the Virgin Giannitsanika, where he will remain for the established ten-day pilgrimage. The Mayor of Kalamata Mr. Athan attended the reception. Vassilopoulos, the Deputy Governors Mrs. Maria Economakou and Mr. Efst. Anastasopoulos, members of the Dim. Council of Kalamata and the Regional Council of Peloponnese, the Commander of the 9th S.P. Colonel Georgios Charitos and representatives of other local bodies.

I heard about this icon from a friend who was in Messinia. This year the procession was on September 3, Thursday evening, and I liked that the bishop spoke of courage in the difficulties of life - just what we need. I hope such an icon reaches us at some point.

Thank God that every year they bring the icon from the monastery to Kalamat. It's nice that Bishop Chrysostomos said that he was coming to give us strength in our difficulties - that's what I remember the most. I hope that some miracle-working icon will come to the parish celebration next year.

We in Belgrade have parish celebrations, but this kind of descent of the icon from Taiget every year on the same day seems especially comforting. Perhaps something similar could be introduced in our country at one of the bigger festivals, what do you think?
