Solemn Vespers of the Nativity of the Virgin in Amariano of Herakliontranslated

On the eve of the Feast of the Birth of the Virgin, Monday September 7, Rev. Metropolitan of Arkalochori, Mr. Andreas, officiated Vespers at the homonymous Byzantine Church in Amariano Pediados. In his divine speech, His Holiness referred to the importance of the feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and to the Most Revered person of Our Lady. Afterwards, there was a procession around the Holy Church and the offered breads were blessed. Among others, the Deputy Mayors Ms. Kalliopi Apostoligiorgakis and Mr. Manolis Kourletakis.

Thank you for this article. I really liked the mention of the procession around the Byzantine church and the blessing of the loaves; It reminds me of the holidays at home in Strasbourg. Metropolitan André must have spoken well about the Virgin, it’s a shame we don’t have an extract from his homily.

Interestingly, after the service there was a procession around the Byzantine church and the blessing of bread - in our parish, on such occasions, we always bake prosphora and share it after the liturgy. It's a pity they didn't say what exactly Metropolitan Andrzej said about the Nativity of the Theotokos, because it's one of my favorite days of the year.

Just this week in our Sunday school we were studying the Nativity of the Virgin Mary with children. It’s nice that Bishop Andrei spoke about this and about the Most Holy One herself. It’s a pity that they didn’t include at least a couple of his words, just like the girls wrote above. And the procession around the church and blessing of the loaves is always so homely and proper.
