Agia Paraskevi, Her conversation with the statue of Apollotranslated

[…] The unconscious King Tarasius, having hardened his heart, said again to the soldiers:

"Seize this god-cursing wretch, stretch her down to the ground by her four limbs, and then take raw buffalo sinew and flog her mercilessly, until she sacrifices to the great gods or dies of torture." Before the king could finish his words, the order was immediately executed.

But what did Agia Paraskevi do? There she showed all her patience and endurance, because one would say that another was being tortured; so much did the Saint seem full of joy and cheerfulness. Two and three times the soldiers were changed, and yet the Saint remained alone; one would have said she was in a beautiful garden, so bright was her face.

When the cruel king saw so much perseverance from the Saint, he was ashamed in front of those present that he could not defeat such a woman and ordered her to be put in prison.

There he ordered her to be nailed stretched out to the ground from all four ends, a large slab to be placed on her breast, and thus she lay punished, until he thought with what death he would put her to death.

Νίκος ΑναγνώστουΑυτή η σκηνή με το μαστίγωμα και μετά την πλάκα στο στήθος είναι βαριά. Μου έκανε εντύπωση που λένε ότι το πρόσωπό της έλαμπε σαν να ήταν σε κήπο, ενώ άλλαζαν οι στρατιώτες από την κούραση. Πόσο διαφορετική είναι η δύναμη που δίνει ο Χριστός από ό,τι φανταζόμαστε.
