The president of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, who is making an official visit to Greece, was welcomed today, Monday, August 31, 2026, at Megaros Maximos, by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. During the joint statements of the two leaders, the Prime Minister of Greece noted that "we attach particular importance to the preservation of the multicultural character of Lebanon, to the protection of the Christian communities".

It's good they're talking about protecting the Christian communities there. Lebanon used to have a much larger Christian population, and it's been shrinking for years. Hope the meetings lead to something practical, not just nice words.

Da, dobro je što se pominje zaštita hrišćana u Libanu. Sećam se da sam čitala kako je tamo nekad bilo preko 50% hrišćana, a sad je jedva trećina. Nadam se da će ovi razgovori doneti nešto konkretno, a ne samo reči.

Yeah, it's good they're bringing up the Christian communities specifically. Lebanon went from over half Christian to barely a third, like Marija said, and that's a real loss. Hope the talks turn into actual help on the ground, not just photo ops.

Yeah, the drop from over half to a third is stark. I keep thinking about the Christian schools and hospitals there that used to serve everyone; if those communities shrink much more, a lot of that everyday charity work will vanish too. Do you know if any Orthodox groups are still quietly sending aid that way?
