In an atmosphere of euphoric joy, the Solemn Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Thursday, August 6, on the Despotic feast of the Transfiguration of the Savior, in the celebratory Holy Church of the same name in Thomastown, Melbourne, in the Holy Diocese of Chora. The Eucharistic Synod was presided over by the Most Reverend Archbishop of Australia, Mr. Makarios, and during this he performed the Deacon ordination of Mr. Panagiotou Andrews, a graduate of the Theological School of the Apostle Andrew Sydney, a family man and father of one child. I am very happy that Panagiotis Andrews, father of one child and a graduate of the School of the Apostle Andrew, entered the priesthood precisely on the day of the Transfiguration. Makarios said it well: the priesthood is the transforming power par excellence. I pray that God will help him on his way.

It's good to see a family man like Panagiotis Andrews ordained right on the Feast of the Transfiguration. The Archbishop's point about priesthood being the chief transforming power in a spiritually stumbling world stuck with me, especially since our own parish just welcomed a new deacon last year. May God give him strength in Melbourne.
