August 20, 2026 · 1 min read

In the Holy Metropolitan Church of Agios Georgios of Tunis, the Holy Liturgy was celebrated on Sunday, August 16, 2026, by His Eminence the Metropolitan of Carthage, Mr. Meletios. At the end of this, the Praises of the Blessed Virgin Mary were chanted by the faithful of various nationalities who participated in the Divine Liturgy, including the Consul of Greece in Tunisia, Mr. Evangelos Tsogas.

I am glad that in Tunisia they also sang the Encomium of the Virgin. I was particularly impressed that people of different nationalities participated together with the Greek consul. It must have been nice to hear these songs in such a far away place.

I am glad that people from different countries, including the Greek consul, sang Encomias together in Tunisia after the Liturgy. I wonder how it sounded in the church of St. George there. And who led the singing, one of the locals or Metropolitan Meletius himself?

I rejoice with you, Vasyl, because it is really nice when people of different nationalities sing Encomias with one faith in such a distant church of St. George. It seems to me that one of the locals led the singing, because Metropolitan Meletius usually serves, not conducts. Have you ever heard these texts sound like Greek in an African church?

Nice to see the Akathist hymns sung in Tunis after the Liturgy, with people from all sorts of nationalities joining in, even the Greek consul. The church of St George must have sounded completely different with all those voices together. I wonder who led the singing – one of the locals or someone from the metropolitan’s group?
