L. Edipsou: The Feast of the Advancement of the Holy Cross in I.N. Agios Panteleimonostranslated

On the morning of Saturday 1 August 2026, in the Holy Church of Agios Panteleimonos Loutra Edipsos, the procession of the Orthros, the ceremony of the Progression and Adoration of the Holy and Life-giving Cross, the Divine Liturgy, as well as the Consecration Ceremony, at the beginning of the new church, were held with ecclesiastical splendor and splendor month. On this day, our Holy Church honors the Progress of the Holy and Life-giving Cross of the Lord, the memory of Saint Elesis of Kytheria, Saint Cassandra the New Martyr, the Saint Seven Maccabean Children, their teacher Saint Eleazar and their mother Saint Solomon.

Within the Holy Step, the Head of the Holy Church, Fr. Nikolaos D. Argyriou, was present as a co-prayer, while the Divine Liturgy was presided over by Fr. Christos Ngelas.

According to the ecclesiastical order, the ceremony of the exit of the Holy Cross and its prostration by the congregation took place during the "Holy God" hymn of the Doxology of Orthros. Afterwards, the officiating priest distributed blessed sprigs of basil to the faithful, reminding them of the relationship of this fragrant plant with the Holy Wood of the Cross.

The basil sprigs after the Cross procession always smell so good in the heat—reminded me why my yiayia kept a pot on her balcony all summer. Father Christos leading the Liturgy and Father Nikolaos praying inside the altar together felt like the whole parish was really starting August right. Did anyone keep their basil sprig by the icon corner at home?
