Agia Tellyria: The participation of the Polemites in the bloody operationtranslated

By Anastasia Siakalli

For three consecutive days, August 7, 8, and 9, 1964, the Turkish Air Force rained napalm bombs over the villages of the Tellyria region. They were thrown with the aim of exterminating the Greek population there, so that they could easily connect the Kokkinon-Mansoura bridgehead with the rest of the areas and create an enclave. Already, a month before, they occupied the strategically important Lorovounos hill, and this strengthened their power.

On August 7, the first day of the bombing, the newly formed National Guard reacted and counterattacked to liberate the occupied territories and to save the civilian population of the villages in the area from the enemies. Among them were the Soldiers of the nearby village of Tellyria, of the 85th company, who witnessed the horrible spectacle of the death and injuries of the victims of the bombs. It's horrible what those people in Tellyria had to go through. Napalm on civilians is something that should never be allowed, and yet it happened. I wonder what happened to those Polemites from the 85th lodge when they were called to Paphos - if they managed to save anyone.

I also read about those three days in August '64. Napalm on civilians is a horror, and the Polemites of the 85th lohos were called in just as this was happening. I wonder what they managed to do after the Paphos command called them, if they even saved part of the world.

I carefully read what the article says about the three days of August '64 and the napalm dropped on civilians. I also wonder what exactly the Polemites of the 85th lohos did after they were called by the command in Paphos on August 8 - if they managed to arrive in time to save at least some of the people or were they stuck under the bombardment. It is sad that it has come to this, even if it is ancient history.
