Prior to the Reverend Metropolitan of Piraeus Mr. Seraphim and his co-ministers the Reverend Metropolitans of Syros Mr. Dorotheos II and Mr. Antonio Glyfada, following the permission of the relevant Metropolitan of Thera Mr. Amfilochios, a Triarchate Divine Liturgy was held yesterday morning in the building of the Family of the Ethnikis and Social Benefactors Athanasios and Marina Martinou Holy Church of Agia Athena, on the beginning of Indictus and the holy memory of the Holy Martyr Athena. The church looks beautiful right there on the cape. Nice to see three bishops serving together for the start of the Indiction and St Athanasia's memory, especially with all the locals turning up like they do every year. The bit about the saints and the departed praying with us at the Liturgy really stuck with me.

The view from Akrotiri really is something with the church perched there like that. I liked how Bishop Dorotheos tied the saints and the departed into the Liturgy too — makes you feel the whole Church is actually there with you at the altar. Have you been to the feast day there before?

The church really does sit beautifully on that cape. I was struck by the same part about the saints and the departed joining us at the Liturgy; it makes the whole thing feel less like we’re doing it alone. Have you ever visited the Martinou family’s other foundations?
