"...you put out the fire...": Warm prayer for the Firefighterstranslated

Report office ope.gr A fervent prayer for the reinforcement of the Firefighters who for days - with ground and aerial means - are on the fire fronts that hit our homeland giving a titanic battle with the flames, the Church sends out, together with the Prayers to the Most Holy Theotokos.   In this unequal battle, five Firefighters have lost their lives in the line of duty, a fact that turns our thoughts to the people who, overcoming themselves, struggle to save property, the natural environment, and above all, human life.

Both the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece and the Holy Provincial Synod of the Church of Crete expressed their condolences for the death of the three Firefighters who lost their lives in Rethymno and Gytheio last week. The Archbishop of Australia Mr. Makarios also expressed his sadness. Two more Firefighters were added to the list of those killed in the line of duty on Sunday after the aerial collision of firefighting helicopters in Psatha.

Those five firefighters gave everything. The crash near Psatha hit hard, especially after the losses in Rethymno and Gytheio. I'll remember them in the litany at St. George's this Sunday.
