Autopsy of L. Mendoni in Aigosthena for the effects of the firetranslated

The Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, yesterday, Wednesday, August 5, in the afternoon, conducted an autopsy in the area of Porto Germenos, in order to determine the effects on the ancient fortress, the Byzantine and post-Byzantine monuments of Aigosthenes, from the great fire that occurred on July 31 and affected the area for four twenty-four hours. Due to the extensive deforestation, carried out systematically, by the competent Ephorate of Antiquities of Western Attica, the monuments were not particularly affected by the fire, as stated in the relevant announcement of the Ministry of Antiquities.

In the fortress of Aigosthenes - according to the announcement - no major damage was caused to the walls and the restored towers (SE and NE), as well as to the churches inside the Acropolis. However, immediate cleaning of their mural decoration is required. In the northern part of the fortress, the fire caused damage to existing stone blocks, which were planned to be used in the upcoming restoration works.

Good thing they did the deforestation, otherwise the whole fort would have burned down. I'm sorry about the stone blocks that burned, they had been prepared for the work. I hope they clean up the murals quickly before they do more damage.

I agree with Theodora, the regular deforestation saved the walls and the towers. It's a shame about those ready-made stones for repairs, but the main thing is that the toihovka can be cleaned quickly. I hope the ministry will not postpone it now.
