Interesting how the shift from myth to reason started with those Ionian thinkers on the Asia Minor coast, all wondering about the first cause of things. It makes you see why the later Church Fathers spent time engaging with Greek philosophy – they were building on that same habit of asking "why" about the world. The bit about moving from nature to ethics with Socrates rings true; I've always found that turning point helpful when reading the early Fathers.
