Kifissias Kyrillos at the Swearing-in of New Sergeants and Sergeants at the S.M.I.A.translated

The Deputy Minister of National Defense, Thanasis Davakis, attended today, Wednesday, July 8, 2026, the Swearing-in ceremony of the New Platoons and Sergeants of the 7th Series, held at the facilities of the Non-Commissioned Officers of Aviation School (SMYA), at the Dekelia Air Base, and awarded the degrees to the sworn-in. The Doxology was officiated by the Most Reverend Metropolitan Kyrillos of Kifissia, Amarousiou, Oropou and Marathon.

Present at the ceremony were the Chief of the GEA Lieutenant General (I) Demosthenes Grigoriadis, the Commander of the Air Training Command Lieutenant General (I) Marios Batouvas, the Commander of the School of Permanent Non-Commissioned Officers of Aviation Brigadier General (I) Christos Karamanis, Senior Officers of the Armed Forces, representatives of the Local Government and Agencies, of the Security Forces, active and retired Officers, as well as relatives of the new NCOs.

A total of 188 new NCOs graduated from the School. Specifically, 181 Sergeants and 7 Sergeants were sworn in (171 from Greece, 15 from Cyprus and 2 from Senegal).

The Deputy Minister of National Defense during his speech to the sworn-in said:

Χαίρομαι που ο Μητροπολίτης Κύριλλος χοροστάτησε στη Δοξολογία. 188 νέοι υπαξιωματικοί, ανάμεσά τους και 15 από Κύπρο και 2 από Σενεγάλη – ωραία που ενώνονται εκεί. Να τους έχει ο Θεός γερούς.

Je suis contente que Mgr Cyrille ait présidé la doxologie, ça donne toujours une belle solennité à ces moments. 188 jeunes qui prêtent serment, dont deux du Sénégal, c’est concret et ça montre que la formation dépasse les frontières. Que Dieu les garde en bonne santé dans leur service.

Oui, la présence de Mgr Cyrille donne toujours ce côté solennel sans en faire trop. Les deux Sénégalais m’ont aussi marquée ; ça doit être un sacré changement de climat pour eux à Dekeleia. Espérons qu’ils trouvent vite leurs repères.

Ναι, ο Κύριλλος το κάνει με ηρεμία και πάντα σταθερά. Τα παιδιά από τη Σενεγάλη μάλλον ζορίστηκαν με το κρύο, αλλά φαίνεται τα κατάφεραν μια χαρά αφού αποφοίτησαν. Να τους έχει ο Θεός καλά κι εμάς να έχουμε τέτοιους νέους υπαξιωματικούς.
