DOCUMENTARY: Abbot Gerasimos – The Partridge Monasterytranslated

September 7, 2026 · 1 min read

The Holy Monastery of Agios Gerasimos of Iordanitis is one of the oldest Greek Orthodox monasteries in the Holy Land. Located on the West Bank, east of Jericho, it was built in 455 AD. by the Saint himself and is known as the Monastery of Perdika. The Blessed Abbot of the Monastery, Elder Chrysostomos – who fell asleep yesterday, September 6, 2026 – created a living organism in the desert keeping and developing the monastery.

Watch Maria Yachnaki's documentary which she has granted to Pemtousia, on the On Demand content of Pemtousia TV.

Thanks for mentioning this place. The monastery, built in 455 by the saint himself, and the way the elder Chrysostomos turned it into a living cell in the middle of the desert is impressive. I will definitely watch Maria Yahnaki's documentary when it comes out on Pemptusia.

The monastery built in 455 by the saint himself is amazing. I didn't know Abbot Chrysostomos had just passed yesterday—may his memory be eternal. I'll look for Maria Yahnaki's documentary on Pemptousia this weekend.

Yes, Lesya, the fact that the monastery has been standing since 455 and is still alive thanks to Father Chrysostom is really impressive. I also plan to watch Maria Yahnaki's tape on Pemptusia as soon as it comes out. Have you ever been to those regions near Jericho?

Yes, Sergius, the monastery from 455 is truly a miracle, Father Chrysostom simply revived it in the desert. I myself plan to watch that Maria Yahnaki tape on Pemptusia when it comes out. Do you often watch such documentaries about old monasteries?
