4th Camp period in Aegina: "Athletes of Christ"translated

With the Grace of God, the blessing of the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Hydra, Spetses and Aegina, Mr. Ephraim, and the assistance of the Holy Monastery of the Holy Trinity, the high school girls' camp period took place in Aegina again this year, on the dates 22/07 - 31/07. In this year's camp season, an attempt was made to highlight the relationship between sports and spiritual life and its name was "Athletes of Christ".

Emphasis was placed on the virtues cultivated by sports and their importance for spiritual life, as well as social life. Through hagiographic readings and references to biblical figures, it was sought to highlight this connection between spiritual and physical exercise.

The names of the teams were associated with exactly those virtues and qualities that characterize an athlete, but also one.

Thus, the names emerged: Courageous, United, Loyal, Strong, Athletic, Victorious, Hopeful, Persistent, Fair and Steadfast. At the same time, each group had a patron Saint: Saint Agathi, Saint Thekla, Saint Paraskevi, Saint Barbara, Saint Maria Skombtsova, Saint Daphne, Saint Chrysis, Saint Glyceria, Saint Nina and Saint Matrona the Blind.

Interestingly, they chose Saint Maria Skobtsova and Saint Nina among their patron saints. In our parish, we sometimes talk about sports while reading about St. Paweł and his "run", so it makes sense. Did the girls choose these group names themselves or were they given them in advance?
