Arrest of a 53-year-old man for a fire caused by the burning of waste on Mount Athostranslated

The investigative services of the D.A.E.E. were immediately mobilized. of the Fire Department for the investigation of a fire that occurred in the area of Mount Athos. In particular, a 53-year-old citizen was arrested as part of the spontaneous procedure for negligent arson by investigative officers of the Mount Athos Karion Fire Service.

The fire occurred yesterday, Saturday, September 5, 2026, at around 2:15 p.m., near the Holy Seat of Agios Simeon of the Holy Monastery of Chilandari.

According to the preliminary investigation data, the arrested person burned waste in a metal barrel, as a result of which the fire escaped and spread to adjacent reeds, dry grasses and low vegetation, burning an area of approximately 40 square meters.

The fire was extinguished by the fire safety team of the Holy Monastery of Hilandari.

An administrative fine of 2,625 euros was imposed on the arrested person.

It is noted that, from 01 January to today 06 September 2026, a total of 767 administrative fines have been imposed, totaling 1,288,487.72 euros, while 339 arrests have been made within the framework of the automatic procedure, of which 302 (89.09%) are from...
