Full Moon August 2026: "Moonlight Melodies" at the Piraeus Archaeological Museumtranslated

August 21, 2026 · 1 min read

The Ephorate of Antiquities of Piraeus and the Islands and the Association "Friends of the Archaeological Museum and Archaeological Sites - Monuments of Piraeus" organize, on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 21:00, a musical event entitled "Moonlight Melodies" at the Archaeological Museum of Piraeus, next to the Ancient Theater of Zea (Charilaou Trikoupi 31, Piraeus). Under the light of the August full moon, the Piraeus Archaeological Museum transforms into a place of music and dreams. The "AENAON" String Quartet of the State Orchestra of Athens and the mezzo-soprano Ioanna Forti weave an evening full of lyricism, where the melodies of Giacomo Puccini, Samuel Barber, Franz Schubert, Ottorino Respighi and Claude Debussy converse with favorite Greek songs, as the organizers mention in the relevant press release.

The musicians participating are: Giorgos Mandylas-violin, Vassilis Soukas-violin, Antilochos Tranos-viola, Asterios Pouftis-cello.

Entrance is free. Arrival time at the event venue 20:30. It is noted that the internal exhibition space of the museum will not be open to the public.

Звучит очень душевно. Особенно интересно, что Пуччини и Шуберт будут соседствовать с греческими песнями под полной луной у древнего театра. Жалко, что внутрь музея не пустят, но вечер на свежем воздухе, наверное, того стоит.

The quartet lineup looks solid – Mandylas on first violin and that mix of Puccini with Greek songs under the full moon at the ancient theatre should be something special. Too bad we can't wander inside the museum, but sitting outside by Zea at 21:00 sounds like a good way to spend a warm August evening. Might try to make the trip if I'm in Greece then.
