The Holy and Sacred Synod continued today, July 23, 2026, its work under the presidency of A.Th. Your Holiness, considering all the issues that were included in the agenda and taking the corresponding decisions. According to the announcement of the Archsecretariat of the Holy and Holy Synod issued after the end of the work, following a proposal by A.Th. His Holiness, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, and the relative request of the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Karpathos and Kasos, Mr. Ambrosios, a vote was held by the Holy and Holy Synod during which he was elected by unanimous vote as Assistant Bishop of the Metropolitan of Karpathos and Kasos, to cover the pastoral needs of the Metropolis, His Eminence Archimandrite Mr. Kallinikos Mavroleon, Abbot of the Holy Patriarchal and Cross Monastery of Agios Georgios Basson Karpathos. The new Bishop received the title of the once brilliant Diocese of Medea.

Михаил ЛебедевI am happy for Father Kallinikos, I know him from Karpathos when I was there a couple of years ago - a good monk and a real business manager in the monastery of St. George. Now an assistant to the metropolitan, this is a necessary job; the islands are always short of priests. Congratulations.
