Patriarch of Serbia: To strengthen the ties of the homeland with the diasporatranslated

On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, the Patriarch of Serbia, Mr. Porphyrios, met with representatives of the Serbian humanitarian and charitable organization "Diaspora Fund for the Homeland", in the hall of the Holy Church of Saint Sava in Belgrade. During the meeting, the representatives of the Fund presented to His Beatitude the work and the achievements of the organization to date, which is active with a focus on three main axes: providing assistance to socially vulnerable Serbs and to institutions in need of support, strengthening ties between the homeland and the Serbian diaspora, as well as preserving the national, cultural and spiritual identity of the Serbian people.

Special reference was made to the situation prevailing today in the Serbian diaspora, with the Patriarch Mr. Porphyrio to highlight both its significant potential and achievements as well as the challenges that require specific initiatives to strengthen unity and solidarity, especially between different generations and social groups.

Es interesante lo que dice el Patriarca Porfirio sobre unir a las diferentes generaciones en la diáspora. Aquí en Argentina muchos serbios de la segunda generación ya casi no hablan el idioma, y un "Serbian House" en Belgrado podría ayudar a que los jóvenes vuelvan a conectarse. Ojalá el Fondo siga adelante con eso.

Patriarch Porfiry was right when he said about different generations. In Samara, too, Serbs from the diaspora sometimes come to services; young people barely understand Serbian. It would be nice if such a “Serbian House” were really built in Belgrade, so that young people could come there and not lose touch with their roots.
