The 82nd Anniversary of the Revolutionary Liberation Movement of Karpathos of October 5, 1944 was celebrated in the Municipal Community of Menetis with particular splendor and emotion, in the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Konstantinos Tassoulas. On this historic day of remembrance and honor, Karpathos was honored with the presence of the Minister of Health, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, the Regional Governor of South Aegean, Mr. Giorgos Chatzimarkos, the Dodecanese MPs, as well as senior officers of the Armed Forces and Security Forces.

Mr. Tasoulas, after the doxology at the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary in the Municipal Community of Menetis, presided over by the Reverend Metropolitan of Karpathos and Kasos, Mr. Ambrosios, made the following statement:

"Like today 82 years ago, here on the Holy Rock of Panagia, in Menetes Karpathos, the bells rang wildly, calling all the people. And the reason they were calling all the people was to announce a shocking and historic decision.

The bells ringing wildly from the church of the Dormition in Menetes to call everyone together really stuck with me. Nice to see the President and the Metropolitan of Karpathos and Kasos there marking the 82 years since they declared union with Greece after all those centuries. Must have been quite a day on that rock.
