July 19: Saint Macrina celebratestranslated

July 19, 2026 · 1 min read

On July 19, the Church commemorates Saint Dios, who came from Antioch in Syria and lived during the time of Theodosius the Great. We also honor the memory of St. Makrina, daughter of Saints Basilio and Emmelia and sister of the Church's Saints Basilio the Great, Naucratius, Petros Sebastias and Gregory of Nyssa.

I loved how it was said that their family became "like a house church." Especially when you remember that Macrina raised all her brothers and sisters, and then she and her mother went to the monastery by the river Iris. Thanks for the reminder that you can live like this at home too.
