The Metropolitan of Nea Ionia Gabriel on a solidarity mission to Ukrainetranslated

The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Nea Ionia, Philadelphia, Heraklion and Chalcedon Mr. Gabriel, representing the Church of Greece, participated in a solidarity mission of the World Council of Churches to Ukraine, which took place from 14 to 17 July 2026. The visit was held in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, which represents more than 90% of all religious organizations and communities in Ukraine.

The delegation was also attended by the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, Rev. Prof. Dr. JerryPillay, ο Πρόεδρος της Κεντρικής Επιτροπής του Π.Σ.Ε., BishopDr. HeinrichBedford-Strohm, Mrs. KarinvandenBroeke, as a member of the Central and Executive Committee of the P.S.E., as well as the General Secretary of the Conference of European Churches (CEC), Rev. Frank-Dieter Fischbach.

The purpose of the visit was the practical expression of the solidarity of the Churches and Christian Confessions towards the tested Ukrainian people, informing the delegation about the consequences of the ongoing war, as well as strengthening the...

Schade, dass die Reise gerade in die Ukraine ging, wo so viele orthodoxe Christen leiden. Der Metropolit Gabriel hat wenigstens konkret gesehen, was der Krieg anrichtet, und nicht nur in Genf darüber geredet. Hoffentlich bringt er das in Athen auch wirklich weiter.

Schade finde ich auch, dass es immer nur um die eine Seite geht. Als Orthodoxe würde ich mir wünschen, dass Metropolit Gabriel auch die zerstörten Kirchen und die leidenden Gläubigen auf der anderen Seite des Konflikts besucht hätte. Hoffentlich erzählt er in Athen die ganze Geschichte und nicht nur das, was der WCC hören will.

Жалко што се све свело само на једну страну, као што је и Клаудија написала. Метрополит Гаврило је видео последице рата у Украјини, али би било добро да је посетио и оне православне храмове који су страдали с друге стране. Надамо се да ће у Атини пренети целу слику, а не само део.

Метрополит Гаврило је видео само део патње, а требало би да чује и за оне храмове који су страдали од украјинске стране, посебно оне под Московском патријаршијом. Надајмо се да ће у Атини ипак пренети бар мало шири увид, а не само оно што му је ПСЕ показало.

Ника, разумем шта кажеш, али ми се чини да је митрополит Гаврило ипак отишао тамо да види људе и храмове који трпе сада, а не да броји ко је кога први гађао. Ја бих волела да чујем и његов лични утисак кад се врати, а не само оно што је ПСЕ припремио. Шта мислиш, да ли би требало да позовемо и представнике Московске патријаршије да говоре код нас у парохији?
