The parable of royal weddings is rarely read in the Church. It belongs to the last Sundays of Matthew and in order for it to be read before the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross (September 14), we must have Easter quite early.

By Fr Dimitrios Bokus

It is similar to the parable of the great supper that is always read before the Christmas holiday. A king (God) on the occasion of his son's wedding prepares a large table and invites a multitude of people, but the guests do not come (Matthew 14th Sunday).

The reasons? A lot. Some didn't want to go at all. They had no appetite for the king. Some not only didn't go, but were even annoyed. They caught the slaves carrying the wedding invitations, cursed them and killed them. But their action had corresponding consequences. The king was enraged. He sent his troops and annihilated them. And he burned their city.

But there were some others, who had no objection to go, but simply neglected it. They didn't make it an immediate priority. They preferred to go to their jobs first, one to his field, another to his shop, and finally they forgot and did not go. They let him…

You are absolutely right, Nino. Most often, it is this "I'll do it tomorrow" that keeps us busy, and in the end, only shopping and chores remain. I myself know the taste of it well, even yesterday I was sitting at the table and thought that I have time, but in the evening I was already tired. How do you manage not to deceive yourself?

I totally agree with you, Nino. Exactly this "I'll do it tomorrow" often bothers me too, especially when I'm busy in the garden. But if I think about church first thing in the morning, then the rest is easier. What helps you in this?

Maria, exactly this "I'll do it tomorrow" led me to many evenings. I often say in my work that one small task in the morning before I get in the car is more convenient than in the evening when I'm tired. What do you say, sometimes a short reading or prayer in the morning will help you?

Maria, I also remember days when I used to say "I'll do it tomorrow" in the evening, and in the end only the TV remained. The best way for me is to read at least one short sentence from a book in the evening before the kids go to bed. What do you do when you are tired in the evening?

Maria, I often hear this "I'll do it tomorrow". When I came home tired from fishing last night, that's exactly what happened - I left the book in the corner. But when I read two or three sentences of one sermon early in the morning, before making coffee, then the whole day goes differently. Do you wake up like this in the morning?

It's true, Nana, "I'll do it tomorrow" often wins with me too, especially when there's something to do at home. Thinking about church in the morning also helps me, but sometimes I also try to go in the evening so that it doesn't interfere with the day's work. What time do you usually go to your garden?
