Archbishop Hieronymus: Stricken by the Unjust Loss of Giorgos Mazownakistranslated

Asked by APN – MNE and its author Elena Machairas about the unjust loss of Giorgos Mazownakis and their personal connection, which the talented folk singer had developed with him, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Hieronymos Hieronymos noted as follows: "Having known Giorgos Mazownakis personally and interacted with him on many occasions, our discussions often took place away from the glare and noise of publicity.

Giorgos had an exceptionally sensitive soul and was a person with special gifts, inner contemplations, and existential searches. He served Greek folk music with love, passion, and commitment for more than thirty years and succeeded, through his talent, which God bestowed upon him simply, and with his authenticity, in winning the public beyond divisions and hierarchies, and inscribing himself in our national memory.

Giorgos was a child of God. And even in the darkness -for we are all inevitably tested by darkness- he always revealed the path towards Light. He stood anonymously and silently, consciously choosing to do so beside fellow humans who needed him, without seeking recognition and...

George really had a sensitive soul, you could see it in his songs. The Archbishop spoke very humanely, especially when he mentioned the meetings away from the limelight. Let us remember him in prayer.
