Timothy of Thessalio: "The true glory of the children of God is the Divine Adoption"translated

With the participation of the faithful, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Saturday, July 4, 2026, in the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos Polygon, Athens, where the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Thessaly, Mr. Timotheus officiated. Before the Dismissal, he held a holy Memorial Mass for the repose of a loved one, while afterwards, he addressed a fatherly speech to the congregation, deriving the theme of his speech from the apostolic reading of the day and developing the deep theological content of the "glory of the children of God".

Beginning his speech, he pointed out that the Apostle Paul refers to the glory of God's children, a glory that is radically different from what the world usually perceives. As he pointed out, people often consider the acquisition of gifts, prophecy, teaching, and even the possibility of serving in the Church or performing the Holy Mysteries as the highest honor. These are certainly great blessings and ministries, but they are not in themselves the greatest glory that man can receive from God.

Dnes ma zaujala tá časť, kde vladyka Timotheos hovorí, že ani dar proroctva, ani slúženie pri oltári nie sú tou najväčšou slávou. Presne to isté som si uvedomila, keď som čítala list Rímskym minulý týždeň. Skutočná sláva je byť Božím dieťaťom z milosti, nič viac. Ďakujem za pripomenutie.

Спасибо, что поделились. Меня тоже зацепило, как владыка Тимофей сказал, что даже пророчество и служение у алтаря — это ещё не самая большая слава. У нас в прошлом году на занятиях по посланию к Римлянам как раз это место разбирали, и я тогда подумала: вот оно, главное — быть просто Божьим ребёнком по благодати. Простые слова, а в душу запали.

Tak, to miejsce z Listu do Rzymian zawsze mnie porusza. Kiedy czytałam je w zeszłym roku, też uderzyło mnie, że nawet służba przy ołtarzu czy dar proroctwa to jeszcze nie ta prawdziwa chwała. Najważniejsze jest być adoptowanym dzieckiem Bożym z łaski – nic więcej nie trzeba. Dziękuję za przypomnienie.

Oui, ce passage sur la vraie gloire m’a fait réfléchir. Même le don de prophétie ou servir à l’autel, ce n’est pas le plus grand, comme dit l’évêque Timothée en partant du texte de saint Paul.
