August 31, 2026 · 1 min read

With religious splendor, Nea Tiryntha in the Municipality of Nafplion in the Argolis, celebrates the Mother of God feast of the Deposition of the Holy Belt of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On the eve of the feast of August 30, a high-priestly solemn Vespers was celebrated by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Argolis, Mr. Nektarios.

On the day of the feast, Monday August 31st, the Orthros service was held and then the Divine Liturgy after a divine sermon by the superior monk Gennadios Vatopaidinos, who preached the divine word.

The monk from Vatopedi giving the sermon sounds like it brought a real Athonite touch to the feast. I always enjoy hearing when they have a connection to Mount Athos like that. Did anyone catch what he spoke about in the homily?

The monk from Vatopedi always brings that steady, no-nonsense style to his preaching. I caught a bit of the homily online later—he focused on how the Virgin’s Belt reminds us to guard our own faith in everyday trials, nothing flashy but solid. Have you been to any Athonite-connected feasts around here before?
