The Feast of the Lifting Up of the Precious Cross in Pheres and the Ordination of a New Deacontranslated

With ecclesiastical brilliance and the participation of many faithful, the Great Feast of the Lifting Up of the Glorious and Life-Giving Cross was celebrated in all the churches of our Metropolitanate. At the center of this autumn celebration were the people of Pheres with their own celebrating Hierarchal Church.

On the eve of the feast, on September 13, 2026, a Great Hierarchical Vespers concluded with the Divine Liturgy, attended by clergy from the Holy Metropolitanate of Alexandroupolis, in the presence of representatives of local authorities, including the elected member of Parliament Epirus Kyriacos Stavros Keltzis and the commander of the 12th Marine Brigade Colonel Paul Andrikopoulos. Faithful from the wider area came to honor the Holy Cross.

On the day of the feast, Monday, September 14, Morning and Hierarchal Divine Liturgy were celebrated by the Very Reverend Metropolitan Anthimos. After the conclusion of the Doxology, the established ceremony of the Lifting Up of the Precious Cross took place in the center of the church, amidst a climate of reverence and deep emotion, while the faithful received branches of royal willow as an blessing according to ecclesiastical tradition.

The basil from the Cross Elevation always smells so fresh when you bring it home. Nice to see the member of parliament Stavros Keletsis and the general from the 12th Division there with everyone. Did the new deacon get ordained during the Liturgy itself?
