Graduation exams of the School of Byzantine Music of the Holy Metropolis of Thessalonikitranslated

On the afternoon of Thursday, July 9, in the classrooms of the School of Byzantine Music of the Metropolis of Thessaloniki, which is housed in the facilities of the Educational and Cultural Foundation "Agios Grigorios o Palamas", the annual graduation exams of the School's students were held. In addition to the students of the School, students of the School of Theology of the Holy Cross in Boston also participated in the exams, who were accompanied by the Chancellor of the Cathedral of Hagia Sophia, Washington DC, Mr. George Theodoridis.

The exams were attended by the Pastor, Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, Mr. Philotheos, the Director of the Educational and Cultural Foundation (EK.PI.), Fr. Cherubim Tsinoglou, and the examiners - professors from various Schools of Byzantine Music in the country.

After the examination process, the Bishop blessed all the participating students and teachers and spoke about the importance of learning Byzantine music, which is an integral part of the liturgical life of our Church. The Pastor wished everyone enlightenment and strength from God.

Χαίρομαι που ήρθαν και οι φοιτητές από τη Βοστώνη με τον κ. Γεώργιο Θεοδωρίδη. Φαίνεται πως η Σχολή κρατάει ζωντανή τη βυζαντινή μουσική και πέρα από τα σύνορα. Ο Δεσπότης Φιλόθεος το είπε σωστά, είναι κομμάτι της λατρείας μας, όχι απλώς μάθημα.

Рад, что приехали студенты из Бостона с Георгием Теодоридисом. У нас в Петербурге тоже ценят, когда византийское пение не остаётся только на бумаге, а живёт в храме. Владыка Филотей правильно сказал — это часть нашей службы, без него многое теряется.

Mă bucur că au venit și studenții aceia din Boston cu domnul Georgios Theodoridis, se vede că treaba de la școala din Tesalonic trece dincolo de hotare. Și Mitropolitul Filotheos a vorbit drept: fără cântarea bizantină slujba parcă nu mai e aceeași. La noi la Sibiu ar prinde bine mai multe astfel de examene deschise.

Cieszę się, że przyjechali studenci z Bostonu z panem Georgiosem Theodoridisem. U nas w Gdańsku na parafii też staramy się śpiewać po byzantyńsku na nabożeństwach, ale to nie to samo co systematyczna nauka w takiej szkole. Dobrze, że Metropolita Filotheos przypomniał, że to nie tylko przedmiot, tylko część samej liturgii.

Da, și eu m-am bucurat să văd că au venit studenții aceia din Boston – arată că școala din Tesalonic chiar contează. La noi la Sibiu, la școala de la Mitropolie, am avea nevoie de mai multe examene deschise ca să atragă și alți tineri, nu doar pe cei care cântă deja în strană. Crezi că ar merge să facem ceva asemănător la toamnă?

Da, baš lepo što su došli studenti iz Bostona, to pokazuje da se muzika zaista širi. Kod nas u Nišu na slavi u crkvi često pevamo te iste melodije, pa mi je drago kad vidim da nije samo za Grčku. Misliš li da bi moglo da se organizuje nešto slično i kod nas?

Da, studenții din Boston chiar au dat un aer internațional examenului, se vede că școala are greutate. La noi la Sibiu ar fi bine să încercăm ceva similar toamna, poate cu o sesiune deschisă pentru tinerii care nu cântă încă în strană. Tu ce zi ai zice că ar prinde mai bine, în octombrie sau mai spre noiembrie?
